How To Finally Love Mathematics

Although, it’s not the same for everyone. Research shows that 7 out of 10 people hate mathematics or dislike it. This might be due to bad teachers, bad basic mathematical introduction or unnecessary fear of the subject.

The SECRET about mathematics is that once you are able to fall in love with it and become a guru, it opens us your mind and makes every other subject easier than normal; even English! These are facts and they worked very well for me. Mathematics is just another regular subject. No hypes! Don’t see it as a big deal. If you set your mind to conquer it, you certainly will.

So here are some tips to how I fell in love with mathematics. I do hope these tips come in handy.

HOW TO FALL IN LOVE WITH MATHEMATICS

WORK ON YOUR MINDSET:

The major problem with we students is that we glorify mathematics to be bigger than what it actually is. As I said before, it’s just another subject. We tend to be scared of it because of what we may have heard from seniors and from our mates about how hard it is.

Work on your mindset, mathematics isn’t a subject to torture you. See it as an opponent you can actually beat down. Once you can approach mathematics with a different mindset, you are one step closer to becoming an expert. CONFIDENCE! KNOW THE BASICS:

MATHEMATICS BASICS AND FUNDAMENTALS
Basics and fundamentals

The problem most people have is that either they do not known the basics or they forget it too easily. Read this article quickly on Scientifically Proven Ways to Remember Everything You Read

Nobody builds a house by starting from the roof; you need a foundation. This is the area 80% of students have lost it. The importance of knowing your basics cannot be over emphasized because the basics are the blocks to building that mansion.

Mathematics is really not complicated. All complex looking problems are built in the basics and fundamentals (fractions, mathematical operations, etc.) Once you are able to know your fundamentals very well, watch every other thing fall in place.

PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT:

Never feel you can be good at it without practice. Even the greatest of mathematicians do practice. Mathematics is just like a sword and if it’s not sharpened regularly, it gets very blunt and in turn useless.

Get books from different authors, and solve problems. This broadens your understanding on a subject matter. So set a particular time every day and study for 30mins to 1hour for a start; with full concentration and no distractions. This also helped me a whole lot.

STUDY IN A MATHEMATICAL MANNER

Ever came across someone preparing for a mathematics exam and was just reading a textbook? It’s an ERROR. When studying, you must study right. Mathematics is solved and not read. Get a notebook and solve practice questions. You need to know they 5 Techniques to Study Smartly as a Student

Also whenever you’re studying mathematics, you should refer to other textbooks and materials for better references and explanations. Take down notes and write down formulas, rather than trying to cram them.

GET A TUTOR:

Find someone who can properly impact mathematical knowledge into you. It may be a paid tutor or a friend. It’s often detrimental if you wait till your grades are bad before you find a tutor. Take those hard difficult questions you don’t understand to them and take full advantage of the help they can provide you.

WORK YOUR BRAIN:

Drop that calculator! To be good in mathematics, you have to work that brain. Be familiar with your multiplication tables (part of knowing your basics) and every other basic calculation. Don’t pick up calculators to do simple additions like 15 + 17 or multiplications. Do well to make your brain work. It enhances your sharpness and increases your IQ level.

TEACH OTHERS:

Put your colleagues through in those topics you have become very good at. Let it be a form of test for yourself, to see if you properly understand that topics well. By teaching others, you broaden your understanding in those topics and identify shortcuts and possible loopholes. But be careful not to teach others what you are not sure of.

PREPARE EARLY

Engage in early preparations for your tests and examinations. Don’t wait till the last minute before you start trying to put everything into your brain; practice sample questions and make sure you are properly prepared.

SAY NO TO MALPRACTICE:

By cheating, you hurt yourself and lie to yourself. Work hard and let your tests and examination be a form of assessment for you, to see how far you have come in your study. Stay calm and avoid anxiety and believe you can do it.
