About Lieutenant Colonel Henry Kirkpatrick Scholarship 2023/2024 in London

Lieutenant Colonel Henry Kirkpatrick’s daughters Elsie and Daphne Kirkpatrick endowed funding to establish scholarships in memory of their father. The scholarships were intended to promote and encourage study in the field of ophthalmology. Lieutenant Colonel Kirkpatrick was passionate about ophthalmology and had a distinguished career in the Indian Medical Service. He worked in several hospitals, including the General Hospital in Madras and the Government Ophthalmic Hospital, where he was able to contribute to the development of teaching and postgraduate training in pathology and ophthalmology. After retiring from the Madras hospital, he became an ophthalmic surgeon at the Tropical Diseases Hospital and a lecturer in ophthalmology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Studying at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) as an international student can be a unique and rewarding experience. LSHTM is one of the leading institutions in the world for public health and tropical medicine research and education, with a diverse student body from over 160 countries.

As an international student, you would be part of a vibrant community of scholars and researchers, with opportunities to learn from world-renowned faculty and participate in cutting-edge research projects. LSHTM has a strong reputation for interdisciplinary and collaborative research, and you would have access to a range of resources and support to pursue your academic interests.

However, studying at LSHTM can also present some challenges for international students. The cost of tuition and living expenses in London can be high, and it may take time to adjust to a new culture and academic environment. Additionally, the application process for international students can be competitive, and you may need to meet certain language proficiency requirements to be admitted.

Despite these challenges, many international students find that studying at LSHTM is a valuable and rewarding experience that prepares them for careers in public health and global health. The school’s strong international focus and commitment to social justice and health equity make it an ideal place to study for those interested in addressing health challenges on a global scale.
